Week 3

Hello Prep Green Families!
We had our first official full week of school and what a wonderful week it was. The children are becoming more settled in the classroom and school routines and are beginning to make relationships with each other as well as with students in the other classes. The students completed Writing, Reading and Number Workshops everyday as well as explored the Good Samaritan Parable in the Bible. Prep Green participated in their first whole school mass, library lessons and PE and Music. Our littles ones are working so hard and it is imperative that they go to bed early ready to start the school day refreshed and energised.
Home Help
Some parents have been asking what can I do at home to assist my child?
Here are some things you can do at home to help your child
1. Encourage your child to dress themselves for school and pack their own bag - we constantly promote independence in the classroom
2. READ! READ! READ! - reading to your child every night will enhance your child's vocabulary, ability to make connections to text and most importantly install a love of literature.
3. Assist your child in writing and recognising their first name - We ask that children write their first name using a capital letter at the start and lowercase for the rest of the letters.
4. Practicing recognising and writing the letters of the week
5. Practicing and recognising the popcorn letters of the week
6. Remember to let your little one have a break when they get home - this can include downtime like playing outside. It is important that we remember they are only 4 and 5 years old!
Pick up and Drop off
Thank you to all of our families for using the correct pick up and drop off procedures. Whilst these do take some time to get used to, it is for the benefit and smooth transition of our children. We appreciate you abiding by these rules.
In the afternoons, it is the classroom teacher's responsibility to ensure each student is taken to the correct pick up point including after school care and white post. This makes it difficult to catch up with every parent in the afternoon. I am always happy to report on your child's progress through an appointment, e-mail or the KIT Folders. Please remember that there are 30 children in the class and it is important that we make sure each child is taken to the correct pick up area on time.
Behaviour
This week we will be focusing strongly on behaviour and our new school values. In Prep Green we use a behavioural chart that involves the children's names being moved up for positive behaviour and down for negative behaviour. Our motto in class is "I can!" We practice resilience and a positive attitude in all that we say and do. This is a great conversation to have with your child at home. Remember mistakes allow us to learn valuable lessons and it is important that our children see this as a learning opportunity.
Lunches
Thank you parents for packing such nutritious and yummy munch and crunch snacks! Our boys and girls are thoroughly enjoying eating healthy. A reminder that our children are growing and need food for both first and second break. An extra piece of fruit or a museli bar is a great addition to any lunchbox!
