Hi Prep Green Families and welcome to week 5!
Can you believe we are half way through term 1 already! Last week, we had the most amazing week and I can't tell you how proud I was to sit back and observe how far our little ones have come in such a short time.
We had such an incredibly busy week last celebrating the Anniversary of the Apology, Valentine's Day, Shrove Tuesday, beginning of Lent and our Bear Hunt and "Bb" picnic. I'm sure your boys and girls slept well after a busy week.
We also introduced our popcorn words last week. Please make sure you are practicing these every night with your child. These should only be practiced for 5-10 minutes as we don't want to exhaust the children after such a big day at school. I've attached a fantastic blog post that gives parents some engaging ideas on how to complete sight words at home.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail me.
Illnesses
In the last few weeks we have had many bugs and viruses go around our class. Children at this age are still very much building up their immune system. Please be mindful that we have 30 children in the class and children should stay home if they are sick. Myself and Mrs Whittaker always catch up the children who were away on any work they have missed. Please make sure you contact the office or myself if your child is going to be absent.
Cultural Celebrations
We absolutely love learning about all the different cultures in our class. Thank you to the parents who have been sharing Chinese New Year with us. If your family celebrates any cultural events, we would love for you to bring in photos and share this with our prep green family! Thank you to our wonderful parents who also brought in Valentine's Day gifts and Chinese food for us! You made our day!
Waiting areas
Thank you to the families who are following our St Bernardine's rule of moving to the other side of the undercover area in the morning. This has made the transition so much easier for our students and they are more settled because of this.
Communication
Please remember to send your child's communication book and KIT Folder back to school everyday. Please check this folder every afternoon as it contains important messages and notes from school. A reminder that the afternoons are not a time to have a parent/teacher interview as we have 30 children to get to different waiting areas. Please e-mail me to book an appointment or leave a note in the communication book.
HASS
In our HASS unit, we will be looking at our families. I ask if everyone could bring in a SPARE photo of their family that we will be using for an activity. Part of this unit is to celebrate the different types of families. We are very respectful of the wonderful and diverse families we have at St. Bernardine's. If you do not wish to send in a full family photo, a photo of mum or dad with your child is perfect. You can also e-mail me a photo and I can print it out for you. We will be looking at all types of families and concentrating on our value of "RESPECT" towards other families and cultures. These photos will not be on social media and will only be displayed in the classroom.
